Phimega Group Post #56
Touch Sensing for Robot and Game Console
posted by soliton at Thu, 4 Mar 2010 - 14:34:19
First thing popped up in my mind reading this news is, in near future
there will be touchy-feely interface for every game consoles out there. Playing game would not be only pressing a button, of course do not mean to disregard the accelerometer sensor used in current game console like Wii. We will have game console which could feel how hard you touch the input sensor. Playing game would become more realistic. And of course robot will gain more improvement with this sensor. More Info: Robots to become touchy-feely http://forum.phimega.com/viewtopic.php?f=3D14&t=3D412 MIT Media Lab has commissioned Peratech Limited to develop a type of electronic =91skin=92 for robotic devices that will enable a robot to determine where it is being touched and with how much pressure. The project aims to develop a touch-sensitive surface layer for robots using Peratech=92s patented =91quantum tunnelling composite=92 material. Quantum tunnelling composites (QTCs) provide a measured response to force and/or touch by changing their electrical resistance. QTCs are electro-active polymeric materials made from metallic or non-metallic filler particles combined with an elastomeric binder. When pressure is applied to the material, the resistance drops in proportion to the amount of pressure, which enables the development of sophisticated human=96machine interface designs that respond to variations in pressure. --=20 soliton ------------------------------------ Diskusi di : http://forum.phimega.com http://yahoogroups.com/groups/mikropop ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
